The Plant Nursery
Over the last 15 years, as visitor numbers to the garden have increased, the nursery has grown to meet the demand for high quality garden plants. We grow a wide selection of herbaceous perennials, grasses, tender plants and choice shrubs. Bulbs are available dry, from late summer, and potted, through the year. There is no admission charge if you only wish to visit the nursery on your trip to Coton, and we hold Autumn plant sales every year.

We advocate the use of natural predators and nematodes where required and this has proved very successful. The nursery has developed a reputation for producing high quality plants. This is helped by the fact that hardy stock is kept outside all year round, resulting in a plant more accustomed to the vagaries of the weather. Only tender and half-hardy plants are over-wintered under glass.

The majority of our stock has been propagated here at Coton, mostly from specimens grown in the garden, which is on an improved clay averaging pH6.5. It is common to admire a plant in the garden and be able to buy a new plant propagated from it. Currently a reduced-peat (50%) compost is used throughout, with ongoing trials progressing towards peat-free potting.

Please note that some varieties are only grown in small quantities, so do please call to check availability before travelling. Whilst we are predominantly a retail nursery, we do cater for garden designers and landscapers, and we can source plants to order.

Please take a look at our stock list or plants of the month sections.

We look forward to welcoming you to the nursery very soon.
