Roses and Clematis

This combined course will mainly examine the potential for growing climbing roses and clematis together. Jonathan Gooch will start by looking at the clematis genus as a whole and discuss the characteristics of different categories and then recommend individual varieties most suitable for combining with roses.
Ian Limmer the Nursery Manager of Peter Beales Roses will then take up the subject from a rose standpoint and explore the range of climbers and pick out those which will host a clematis as plant partner. In both talks there will be discussion about care and maintenance of the plants in combination. |

Jonathan Gooch, together with his wife Ruth, runs Thorncroft Nursery in Norfolk and has many years experience in growing an extensive range of clematis varieties and exhibiting at all the major shows with particular success at Chelsea where they were awarded a Gold Medal in 2007.
Ian Limmer is the Nursery Manager of Peter Beales roses in Norfolk where he has worked since leaving school. He has lectured and demonstrated at Coton on several previous occasions dispensing invaluable knowledge to everyone. He is always involved in the highly successful stand at Chelsea winning innumerable Gold Medals. |
